The Alexander Centre is now the centre for adult education and was the original grammar school.
"The Alexander Centre after the original headmaster, John J. Alexander, who won the post from 154 applicants. Although designed for 50 pupils, opening in 1895 with only 36 students, the numbers gradually increased and by 1921 the school held 121 students. " source
