Hugh used to tour the UK in his chess grandmaster capacity after WW2 and wipe the boards all round. He would visit Dorchester and play against some two dozen local players. He would comment that Arthur gave him a hard game. Arthur's son Conel would have been about fourteen at the time as an observer, perhaps even Arthur's Second.
